Course Overview
This course is about the world of late
This course is not to teach you about how to treat
your clients. It is rather, a course of how to treat your thinking
about your clients. It is a course about you and me coming to understand
ourselves within our own families and experiences. Learning a theory about the
practice of understanding self within family may in time afford the
professional the disciplined experience of “coaching” others in the same.
In this course you will learn only the
basics of the Bowen Theory. Where you
take it from there is for your future endeavors of being mentored in its
practice.
Classes 1 & 2 presents a quick review of the
history, development and overview of the Bowen Theory
Class 3 presents Biological Systems
Thinking as it relates to the Bowen Theory.
Classes 4 & 5 explores the interconnected
components of the eight concepts of the Bowen Theory as it stands at its
current state in its evolution.
Class 6 introduces Dr. Walter Toman’s work and
its applicability to the family as an emotional unit.
Class 7 explores the organizing facts of
information as it relates to the theory.
Classes 8 & 9 opens an understanding on the
theory’s use for the therapist in one’s own family, as an opportunity for
clinical assessment, and as a theory for assisting clients to gain a knowledge
of self and family.
Class 10 involves a discussion of the evolving
Theory of Human Behavior and its scope of application.
The structure of the course is set to bring
about class participation and interaction.
During the experience there will be three to four guests who will
present their thoughts about their work with the Bowen Theory. These guests hope for (thrive on) class
questions and interaction.
I welcome you to the Bowen Theory class and look
forward to working with you.
All the best!
Dr.
